Structure-Specific and Individual-Dependent Metabolization of Human Milk Oligosaccharides in Infants: A Longitudinal Birth Cohort Study

نویسندگان

چکیده

To follow human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) biosynthesis and in vivometabolization, mother infant feces from 68 mother–infant dyads at 2, 6, 12 weeks postpartum were analyzed, with 18 major HMOs quantitated. Fucosylated neutral core HMO levels dependent on mothers’ Lewis/Secretor status, whereas most sialylated independent. Infant fecal excretion of gradually declined age, especially for structures. Although decreasing absolute concentrations during lactation, the relative abundance total fucosylated increased both feces. Mono-fucosylated more consumed than those decorated two fucose moieties. More (α2-3)-sialylated degraded (α2-6)-sialylated HMOs. The transition speed metabolization nonspecific or structure-specific consumption stage to complete was individual-dependent. Variation associated mode place delivery, where caesarean section early exposure hospital environment delayed transition.

Longitudinal change of selected human milk oligosaccharides and association to infants’ growth, an observatory, single center, longitudinal cohort study

BACKGROUND Human milk is the recommended and sole nutrient source for newborns. One of the largest components of human milk is oligosaccharides (HMOs) with major constituents determined by the mother genotype for the fucosyltransferase 2 (FUT2, secretor) gene. HMO variation has been related with infant microbiota establishment, diarrhea incidence, morbidity and mortality, IgE associated eczema ...

Survival of Premature and Low Birth Weight Infants: A Multicenter, Prospective, Cohort Study in Iran

ABSTRACTBackground: The survival rate of preterm and low-birth-weight (LBW) infants depends on various factors such as birth weight, gestational age, and quality of care. The present study aimed at evaluating the survival rate of preterm and LBW infants, predictive factors, and the risk of mortality in three training hospitals of Mashhad and Tabriz cities. Methods: This prospective, cohort study...

Prediction Value of CRIB-II in Outcome of Preterm and Low Birth Weight Infants: a Prospective Cohort Study

Background: One of the most common methods of identifying mortality risk is the Clinical Risk Index for Babies scoring system (CRIB- II). The aim of this study was assessing the value of CRIB- II in predicting mortality risk in preterm and low birth weight infants in East Azerbaijan- Iran. Materials and Methods: This prospective cohort study was carried out in 2013-2014 during 6 months in NICUs...

a contrastive study of rhetorical functions of citation in iranian and international elt scopus journals

writing an academic article requires the researchers to provide support for their works by learning how to cite the works of others. various studies regarding the analysis of citation in m.a theses have been done, while little work has been done on comparison of citations among elt scopus journal articles, and so the dearth of research in this area demands for further investigation into citatio...

Milk oligosaccharides and metabolism in infants.

Since the discovery of human milk oligosaccharides (HMO) >60 y ago, research has faced major challenges including (i) the development of methods to identify and characterize these components, (ii) the need to use HMO fractions for functional studies because single HMO were not available, (iii) the uncertainty of the purity of HMO fractions that were often "contaminated" by remainders of lactose...
